URGENT: Need help to recover JFS

Today, when I have connected my 1TByte harddisk to my notebook, 'nepomukfilesearch' was accessing to this external drive which has only one partition with JFS file system. Later then my notebook went into 'suspend to ram' mode, I'm not really sure (but assume), /dev/sdb1 was unpowered while nepomukfilesearch still accessed that drive. But when that notebook resumed, I could no more access to /dev/sdb1. And it was NOT possible to mount it again. Usually I could do a simple
Code: Select all
fsck /dev/sdb1

which repaired the structure. But today, something must have happened. Finally I tried a:
Code: Select all
fsck -fbv /dev/sdb1

but nothing changed. As same, when I did that simple fsck /dev/sdb1, I received many errors, and finally, my disk was not repaired. Here are the last lines, which may examplary for the process.
Code: Select all

root@SSD1-K311-KDE411:

I was searching for a program with name jfsrec, but that is not in Rigo.
-Where can I get it, executable in Sabayon (13.10, KDE 4.11.1, Kernel 3.11.4)?
-Is there another better alternative to recover (at least) a part of my hard disk?
Any help, every idea is mostly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Have you tried installing from source?

Edit; These may help http://jfsrec.sourceforge.net/ and http://sourceforge.net/projects/jfsrec/

Hallo Dunsurfin.
Thank you for (the only one) reply. I have already downloaded yesterday. I've install gcc-compiler and some more packages. Then I unzipped the downloaded jfsrec package, and finally changed to
Code: Select all
~Downloads/jfsrec/src

Here I started a
Code: Select all
./configure

which seems to run without errors. Then I started a
Code: Select all
make

which ended like this:
Code: Select all
make

You see, there appeared errors while make. No successful 'make', no way to do a 'make install' :( .
I always fear compiling because of missing tools, programs, settings or else, because I don't have any idea, and I can't guess, what is really cause of the error.
Do you understand about the errors? If so, then thank you for let me know, pls., what can I do.

Have you tried the jfsutils package, the official JFS for Linux tools?

https://packages.sabayon.org/quicksearch?q=jfsutils

http://jfs.sourceforge.net/

jfs_fsck - initiate replay of the JFS transaction log, and check and repair a JFS formatted device

Hallo guys, hallo Fitzcarraldo.
As you recommended, I've installed jfsutils, and then I've executed jfs_fsck. See, what I've received here:
Code: Select all

:( not really successful.

I'm really confused and not sure about 'System' entry of my jfs formatted partition (fdisk -l):
Code: Select all
Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000204883968 bytes, 1953525164 sectors
Units = Sektoren of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk label type: dos
Disk identifier: 0x63cb2c63

Gerät  boot.     Anfang        Ende     Blöcke   Id  System
/dev/sdb1            2048  1953521663   976759808    7  HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

I would expect the 'System' entry should be 'Linux', not 'as shown here, 'HPFS/NTFS/exFAT'. Is this a problem to mount my /dev/sdb1 parttion and recognized as jfs?
If so, can I simply change the partition entry from 'HPFS/NTFS/exFAT' (type 7) into 'Linux' with cfdisk, maybe (type 83) without deleting my data? I mean I will NOT delete any partition in cfdisk, ONLY change type and write back.
Will my data still be kept then or not? May this be useful to repair my jfs partition?
I'm still trying to compile jfsrec (make!) on an ubuntu system. Still have big problems with 'make', receiving 'boolean errors'.

Thank you.

I have also run 'testdisk', which reads sector by sector. But also here, I received error messages only.
It should find at least some files, which should be able to read out and save on another storage.
But for jfs partition, there was no file found...
More and more, I fear, my disk is gone, is impossible to be read anymore.

Update: I have bought a new 500GByte external disk (USB3, Intenso), which I have devided into 2 partitions to minimize risk of loss of data again. Then I've formatted with XFS instead of JFS, due to better rescue tools (I have read). The transfer speed is fabulous, 100MByte/sec and up for a movie. Now I collect all data, I still have on older (external) storages...

I have been using XFS filesystem since 2010 and never had a problem, well the only problem I had was related to permissions, you have to enter file manager as root and fix permissions (read & write, create & delete files) for the user before you copy data to disc, you have to give ownership of the external disc to the user!
