bcm4323

Postby valdrio » Tue Sep 24, 2013 14:33

Hi,

I've just bought a netgear wirless usb adapter (wnda3100v2) but it doesn't work.
the lsusb command gives me this outpu:
Bus 006 Device 010: ID 0846:9011 NetGear, Inc. WNDA3100v2 802.11abgn [Broadcom BCM4323]

So i've checked if the bcm4323 chipset was supported but I cannot find out anything if not that on ubuntu someone mamaged to make it work.
Is there a mean to make the adapter work or the only solution is to change it?

Thanks
valdrio

The Broadcom BCM4323 is not directly supported in Linux. You'll need to use NDISwrapper with the Windows driver:

I haven't used NDISwrapper in years, but there are some tips for your case (0846:9011) in the following Arch Linux post:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 6#p1021266

There's an old article in the SL Wiki on using NDISwrapper with a different Broadcom chip, so that might help you a bit too, but it's probably way out of date.

NDISwrapper is in the Entropy repository, so at least that is something, i.e. you should not have to mess with Portage (emerge, etc.)

Thanks, i tried NDISwrapper but without success.
First in Entropy there is NDISwrapper only for kernel until 3.9.0 so i tried to insall it by using the tar.gz file and then with emerge but I received an error. So I installed the kernel 3.9.0 and proceeded with NDISwrapper.
The article in the wiki was really useful, I installed successfully the modules and now ndiswrapper -l give me this output
Code: Select all
bcmn43xx32 : driver installed
        device (0846:9011) present
bcmn43xx64 : driver installed

I'm using Sabayon 64 bit but only the 32 bit driver find the wireless adapter.
After this I tried the commando modprobe ndiswrapper but it says module not found and the network manager cant' see the device.
