Choice of MATE and/or KDE at login time???

Postby Michel111 » Tue Jul 23, 2013 23:05

Greetings! :-)
I have Sabayon 13.04 Mate installed in a grub dual-boot with Win7. It all works dandy.
My Sabayon login gives me a choice of MATE or Xfce.
I would like to add KDE as a boot option.
How can I do that. Is it possible?
Rigo doesn't give me anything a newbie like I could understand, like "Install KDE desktop", or some such.
The download site seems to only offer one or the other but not both?
How can I do this? I remember having that option with Ubuntu (or was it Mandriva??) some years ago...
Did I DL/install the wrong .iso?

To sum up: when all is done, I would like to have a Win7/Sabayon dual boot via Grub, with Sabayon, when chosen, giving me then the option of going Mate or KDE (and Xfce!).

Intel i5-2400, ASUS MB, Disc is a Corsair SSD with 60GB available for linux.

From a root terminal:
equo install kde-meta

That should do it. Would be best to have your system updated and upgraded before you start.

I don't know if it will help, but, it wouldn't hurt to run:
equo libtest
And:
equo deptest
Other than that, I'm not sure what the problem is. Maybe somebody else knows what's missing. It seems to me, if I remember correctly, there is a package that concerns including kde in the menu...something about "startkde". If no one else knows, I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah, I checked for the package, and there is a startkde package. From a root terminal, type and enter:
equo search startkde
Check the result to see if it is installed. If not, install it. Maybe that will get you going.

Hello Dave_64, and good news. It worked. I followed your instructions in various orders, some I had to do twice, and now, I have exactly what I wanted: "KDE Plasma Environment" as a choice at boot time, along with X and Mate...
Perfect, and thank you so much! :-) :-) :-)
