RT3290 not supported?
Dear all,
My new laptop, Asus X450JF is equiped with a RT3290 chipset doing Wifi and Bluetooth.
However I am not able to activate the wifi (I do have the on/off button in Gnome Network Panel, but I'm not able to set it as ON) and I don't see anything concerning the bluetooth.
Any idea what to do?
Thank you !!
PS: I'm running on the Kernel 3.10, 64b system.

Re: RT3290 not supported?
It looks like the system is using the firmware RT2800 instead.
But dmesg give me the following info:
I will try to manually install the latest firmware
Any idea on how to solve this issue?
Thanks !
But dmesg give me the following info:

Re: RT3290 not supported?
Your wireless and Bluetooth combo controller:
It seems that you do have the correct module loaded:
but you need to install the firmware:
However it looks like support in Linux for the Bluetooth hardware of this combo controller does not exist, so you will probably not be able to get Bluetooth working (see e.g. Bluetooth with Ralink RT3290 on HP ProBook 4740s).
Code: Select all
03:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe
03:00.1 Bluetooth: Ralink corp. RT3290 Bluetooth
Code: Select all
lsmod | grep rt2800
Code: Select all
equo install linux-firmware
Re: RT3290 not supported?
Strange, linux-firmware are already installed.
A re-installation don't improve the situation..
But I still cannot activate the wifi with Network Manger.
However with cmd line I can activate and scan. But I cannot connect... May be I should continue to dig that way instead...
Any other ideas?
PS: It's a fresh install using the daily GNOME iso. (From the 17th July)

Re: RT3290 not supported?
The SL kernel configuration file has CONFIG_RT2800PCI_RT3290=y so the rt2800pci module should work.
I notice from your lsmod output that both modules rt2800pci and rt2x00pci are loaded. I don't know if the module rt2800pci requires the rt2x00pci module to be loaded or whether the rt2x00pci module is interfering with the functioning of the rt2800pci module. You could try unloading the rt2x00pci module to see what happens. As root user:

Re: RT3290 not supported?
Any news?
EDIT:
By using WICD, it works !!
The problem seems to be related to Network manager.
How can we make it work? (I'm not a big fan of WICD...but at least it works haha)
Thank you !

Re: RT3290 not supported?
Strange, actually, with the latest sabayon 13.08, it doesn't work anymore using WICD.
It connects for 2 sec and disconnect....
Quite annoying not having any wifi......
Any idea how to fix it? (It is not only related to Sabayon, same for Debian/Ubuntu)
Thank you for your help !
