more xgl effects

Postby random guy » Tue Dec 05, 2006 3:08

hey i was looking at some xgl demos on google video (ya i already have xgl but i was with a friend out of the house)

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 03&q=linux

at like 3:00 he types something in the terminal and then he gets matrix lines down his screen. looks cool. does anyone know how to do this and where i can get some better animations other than a matrix thing (maybe some realistic snow or rain drops that really look like real life, anything cool)

thanks.

by the way i in beryl with gnome.

Want to do it on your pc...type this into youre Konsole and watch.

Code: Select all
xwinwrap -ni -argb -fs -s -st -sp -a -nf -- /usr/lib/misc/xscreensaver/glmatrix -root -window-id WID

Movies playing on your desktop?

P.S. To stop it just close the Konsole session.

The effect is awesome. Getting it to stop, however, can be a pain. In fact, I can't get it to stop. It starts in my KDE session and takes over, hiding all other windows, and the panels.

I started a gnome session to post this comment.

To stop it just end the Konsole session.

I had an issue like yours with the atlantis screensaver (don't use atlantis), I eventually just rebooted the computer. Now that I have time to think about it I could have killed it via the command line.

Another ill effect I noticed, is after turning xwinwrap off, my regular KDE screensaver (the clock) gets a little transparent.

I suggest looking for a sollution at the gentoo wiki.
