SFLphone

Postby tollgate » Sun Aug 12, 2012 11:11

I came across this softphone yesterday and installed it using Rigo. My problem is I do not know how to launch it. No menu item is added and I cannot find the program file in any of the usual places. I have searched these forums and there is no mention of SFLphone at all, and googling has not helped either.

So, anyone know how it works? :?:

Thanks for the reply wolfden.

It would appear that the SFLphone application in the repo is just a daemon and is started with sflphoned. A client is also required which does not seem to be in the repository.

As it would appear to be more that just a straightforward softphone, I think I will leave it.

Looking at the USE flags of the built package in Entropy, it has the USE flags for the GUI client turned off:

Repository sabayon-weekly
Sub-repository gentoo
Licenza GPL-3
Required space 15.6MB
Categoria net-voip
Slot 0
Tag N/A
CHOST x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
CFLAGS -O2 -ftree-vectorize -march=x86-64 -pipe -floop-interchange -ftree-loop-distribution -floop-strip-mine -floop-block
CXXFLAGS -O2 -ftree-vectorize -march=x86-64 -pipe -floop-interchange -ftree-loop-distribution -floop-strip-mine -floop-block

Package file packages/amd64/5/net-voip:sflphone-1.0.1~0.tbz2
Package size 0.9MB
USE flags -static-libs speex amd64 -gnome multilib kernel_linux elibc_glibc -debug -doxygen gsm -networkmanager userland_GNU
Keyword ~amd64 ~x86
Injected False

The ebuild shows what is installed, depending on which USE flags are set when you merge the package:

Bottom line: The package in Entropy is not particularly useful if you want to use SFLphone with a client in GNOME or other DE.

Yes, I agree with you.

If I install with the emerge command, is there a USE flag that will install the KDE client?

No, there isn't. The current ebuild only allows you to install the GNOME client (USE="gnome") or the command-line client (USE="-gnome"). Someone has asked for a KDE USE flag to be added (see https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=416999), but it has not happened so far.

^Scratch that! Since my previous post someone has added a further comment to that Gentoo Bug Report No. 416999 updating sflphone-1.2.0.ebuild to include a KDE USE flag. So now you can merge it via Portage with USE="kde" and get the KDE client if you want.

However, you would need to install it via a local overlay, as that version of the ebuild in Gentoo Bug Report No. 416999 Comment #6 is not yet in the main Portage tree.
