Graphical card nvidia ? [Solved]

Postby jolato » Wed Jul 25, 2012 15:22

Sabayon 9 KDE 64b with Nivdia 9600GM on Asus N55. In other distros like Suse or Mint you have this message warning you that nvidia proprietary drivers are available or at least there is some place where you can install.

Where exactly should I look for this option under Sabayon 9 ?

Sabayon has the proprietary stuff as a part of the standard install. You should already be running with proprietary drivers.

as root:
Code: Select all
#eselect opengl list

if nvidia is selected, you're using the proprietary drivers.

Interesting.

Have a go installing the drivers.

Code: Select all
#equo install nvidia-drivers

That will install the proprietary nvidia drivers. Then do the eselect to make sure nvidia is selected.

If it isn't:
Code: Select all
#eselect opengl set nvidia

Reboot. Enjoy.

uhm ... very strange.

you can install nvidia proprietary drivers :
Code: Select all
# equo install nvidia-drivers

Set OpenGL
Code: Select all
# eselect opengl set nvidia

set "Driver" option in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Code: Select all
[...]Section "Device"

    Identifier  "SabayonVga1"
    Driver      "nvidia"
[...]

save and exit.

reboot

PS :
Check your VGA card
Code: Select all
# lspci | grep VGA

Black screen, went to single user mode to restore xorg.conf.bak but read-only fs.
However mount says /dev/sda6 on / ext 4 [rw, ...] ?

ok, thanks; by the way it's a GT555 card, not a 9600GM

# eselect opengl list
Available OpenGL implementations:
[1] ati
[2] nvidia *
[3] xorg-x11

# lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF106 [GeForce GT 555M] (rev a1)

I think its solved :)
