Sound card stopped working. [Solved]

Postby notzippy » Mon Jul 23, 2012 16:05

After a weekend update my sound card seems to be AWOL, in dmesg I am seeing many errors like
Code: Select all
[   60.131676] alsa-sink[8377] general protection ip:7f30a43452cb sp:7f30a42f1bf0 error:0 in libasound.so.2.0.0[7f30a42f3000+d9000]
[   60.963116] alsa-sink[8395] general protection ip:7feea270a2cb sp:7feea26b6bf0 error:0 in libasound.so.2.0.0[7feea26b8000+d9000]

And I am getting a prompt to "forget about these devices"
Code: Select all
Capture: HDA ATI SB (ALC888 Analog)
Capture: USB Device 0x46d:0x825 (USB Audio)
Capture: USB Device 0x46d:0x825 (USB Audio)
Output: HDA ATI SB (ALC888 Analog)

Code: Select all
cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [SB             ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB
HDA ATI SB at 0xfe024000 irq 16
 1 [HDMI           ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI HDMI
HDA ATI HDMI at 0xfdffc000 irq 43
 2 [U0x46d0x825    ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x825
USB Device 0x46d:0x825 at usb-0000:00:12.2-3.1, high speed

My systems hardware has not changed so I am confused about these errors, any thoughts ?

thx

There was another couple of updates that installed (sorry dont know which packages thought they were unrelated), then after a reboot I noticed there was no errors in dmesg. I checked the audio, set it to built-in and volia sound again..

thx for ur input though
