Booting and music ? [Solved]

Postby jolato » Mon Jul 23, 2012 9:50

I am running Sabayon 9 KDE 64 bit. A very simple question but did not find an answer on internet: sabayon used to have a boot with music functionality. Has this dissapeared? Is there still this possibility (boot parameter ?) and how ?

Hi jolato, welcome to the Sabayon Community :alien:

You can still activate the Sabayon boot music, if I remember correctly it has been removed from Live editions since sometimes booting was too fast, so the boot music could become annoying.
As you can see the package is still available:
http://packages.sabayon.org/show/sabayon-music,67836,sabayon-weekly,amd64,5,standard

You just need to activate the music service on boot.

I re-installed the system from scratch and upgraded Entropy using Equo. I still have to upgrade all installed packages, but a quick glance with rigo showed that this music package (Sabayon music service) was already installed. So I went to system settings - Startup & shutdown - Grub bootloader, however since I use a windows boot manager it said it can not detect any.

Could you plaese point me to the file or procedure where/how I can insert this music option ?

if music-package was already installed :

Edit sabayon-grub
Code: Select all
# nano -w /etc/default/sabayon-grub

Ading music parameter at the end of the line
Example :
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="${GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX} init=/linuxrc splash=silent,theme:sabayon video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr:3 vga=791 [...] music"

save and exit

Update grub
Code: Select all
# grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

Start music at boot
Code: Select all
# rc-update add music default

reboot the system
Code: Select all
# reboot

[edit] you can find music script to /etc/init.d/music

you can setting volume % or set your own track to /usr/share/sounds/boot.ogg

Of course ... rename boot.ogg with your prefer ogg-vorbis track . if You choose mp3 file please set ogg123 commands in the script with "lame". Make sure that "media-sound/lame" is installed.
