Brother driver for Sbayon 64bits [Solved]

Postby Yves-Patrick » Fri Feb 03, 2012 20:07

Hello,
I have a driver problem for my Brother printer HL3040-CN.
I used Kubuntu (64bits) before moving to Sabayon (64Bits).
To install the printer I followed the instructions here:
http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Install_a_Brother_Printer.
But the printer does not work. On Ubuntu you must also install ia32-libs, because the driver is a 32bits. But I have not found ia32-libs in Entropy.
Can anyone tell me what is the equivalent of ia32-libs for Sabayon?
Or tell me where I was wrong?
In advance thank you. Patrick

Thank you for the information.
I installed emul-linux-X-86-compat, emul...-qtlibs, emul...-xlibs and emul...-baselibs but that does not work correctly.
1. the test page prints correctly
2. print icon doesn't appear (the printer-applet is not found)
3. I can print one or two pdf files or whatever, but after a while a can't print again, the printer stops, the data light remain on.
Hum this is bizarre ...!

Finally I found the solution to my problem.
I said "...I can print one or two pdf files or whatever, but after a while I can't print again, the printer stops, the data light remain on..", but in fact I noticed that I could print large files ... but not small (<300KB).

By going into CUPS I noticed that I had the message "No pages found" when I wanted to print small files.

I searched the Net and I found the solution on the forum "Archlinux".

The solution is to install a2ps, and the problem is solved! :D
Code: Select all
emerge a2ps

Address of the solution on the Archlinux forums: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=113962
