Amarok Stalls [Solved]

Postby kage » Sun Jan 15, 2012 10:59

Hi,

I hoped the update to version 2.5 would take awy this problem:

Amarok starts up ok in gui. After a while when playing internet music or just plain mp3 the program stalls and i have force it to close.

When tstarting up from cls i get this info:

Code: Select all
[email protected] ~ $ amarok
KGlobal::locale::Warning your global KLocale is being recreated with a valid main component instead of a fake component, this usually means you tried to call i18n related functions before your main component was created. You should not do that since it most likely will not work

The thread Subject has "[Solved]" in it but I don't see any explanation in your post as to how your problem was solved. What happened? Did it go away of its own accord after you upgraded? Or did you do something else that fixed it?

Hi,

Apparently nobody knows an answer. Went over to other boards and no luck there either. Checked the www and found nothing which even looked similar. Uninstalling and reinstalling Amarok gives the same. The update didn't work either so that leaves me as the sole soul with this problem.

I went over to Exaile for the time being and decided to mark the problem solved as I won't be using Amarok.

Did you try deleting the amarok* files in $HOME/.kde/share/config/? Also, looks like you've got more than one problem. For example, file names: Amarok - tag editing - KLocale - Expected node absent.

Yes I did,
I deleted them, also the other one in KDE share.
Removed Amarok
Reinstalled Amarok after a reboot
Didn't point to my source of local music (which is NOT at the usual place for Amarok)

Started from cls and still the same info is produced as in my original mail.
I checked whether there are local music files. Amarok says there aren't so the problem with the tags aren't there.

I really don't know where to look: is it Sabayon? Is it KDE? Is it Amarok?

Fact is that everything worked some time after install.
Was there an update prior to the failure? No
Did i change tags? Yes
Did I change them prior to the error? No

So did I forget or overlook something?

Amarok uses Phonon. Which Phonon backend do you have as the preferred backend? Three are possible: XINE, GStreamer and VLC. The package media-libs/phonon-xine-4.4.4 is masked for removal in Portage, although according to the SL Packages page it is still available in Entropy (https://packages.sabayon.org/quicksearch?q=phonon-xine). The two preferred backends by KDE developers are GStreamer and VLC, so try one of those if you haven't already. The packages are:

https://packages.sabayon.org/quicksearch?q=phonon-vlc

https://packages.sabayon.org/quicksearc ... -gstreamer

I'm using the VLC Phonon backend and Amarok works fine with it. (Mind you, it worked fine with the other two, as well.)

Some other things to try if that does not help:
