I have an ATI HD5730 and was wondering if you could post the directions I should follow to installing ATI FGLRX driver?

kanazky, which open-source ATI driver are you currently using? Please post the output of the following commands, run as root user in a Konsole/Terminal:

Code: Select all
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep Driver
equo search xf86-video-ati
eselect opengl list
eselect mesa list
cat /boot/grub/grub.cfg | grep kernel
cat /etc/conf.d/modules | grep modules=

I have split your post from the thread Ati Radeon HD 4350. Please create a new thread when your hardware is different.

Hi all, sorry to hijack the thread, but have a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, and after installing Sabayon 7 last night, then updating the OS, whenever I select buttons or option on screen, it graphically glitches for a second, then is fine for a little bit.

After using the commands suggested here, I get:

Code: Select all
primal rox # cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep Driver
    Driver      "fglrx"
primal rox # equo search xf86-video-ati

Is there anything I can do to fix the glitches, and get a system that is usable? As I need this laptop for university and work.

What, precisely, do you mean by "glitches"? Are you seeing a momentary effect similar to the one shown in the post: ? kwin /ati problem after upgrade... [Solved]? If yes, and if it is fleeting, then it's a problem with the X.Org Server and the latest version of the closed-source FGLRX driver (a.k.a. AMD Catalyst for Linux). All you can do is wait for the X.Org developers and the AMD developers to release an upgrade.

It is highly unlikely to have anything to do with your problem, but, as you're using the FGLRX driver, you may as well get the mesa library links configured correctly on your machine, since you are not using (and cannot use) the Gallium library with the FGLRX driver. As root user:

Code: Select all
eselect mesa set 64bit r300 classic
eselect mesa set 32bit r300 classic
eselect mesa set 64bit sw classic
eselect mesa set 32bit sw classic
