GRUB recovery

Postby apiaio » Sun Dec 11, 2011 13:54

Hi there.
In the past I used LILO. When I needed to recowery LILO I simply chrooted into the system using live CD run command
Code: Select all
/sbin/lilo
and everything was OK. Now I will need to recovery GRUB I am afraid, but don't know how  .
Any advice appreciated.

If you have legacy grub then try supergrub disc. It's worked well for me.

GRUB 1.xx is GRUB 2. GRUB Legacy is 0.9x.

Finally I was forced to reinstall Grub2. I followed
HOWTO:Mount LVM
, chrooted into mounted LVM partition after that with the help of
HOWTO:Restore Grub2
created the new grub.cfg. When run command grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg there were message
Code: Select all
generating grub.cfg
Cannot find list of partitions! (Try mounting /sys)
done.

After reboot I can see
Code: Select all
~ub>

Info: I reinstalled GRUB because in the past Sabayon was installed on /dev/sdb now is the same installation on /dev/sda

Succeeded little. Before run grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg I mounted /sys
Code: Select all
mount -o bind /sys /LVM/vg_ .../sys
Now Grub shows and boot Windows from sda1, but no Sabayon available
