Missing package for update [Solved]

Postby dunsurfin » Tue Nov 01, 2011 9:07

This is probably known about, but just in case it isn't;

80 - 90 updates yesterday went perfectly on my AMD64 machine running SL7 AMD64 KDE fully updated. The same updates on my x86 machine (running SL7 KDE x86 fully updated) have stuck on one or two packages. The principal package missing is app-admin:system-config-printer-common-1.3.7~0.tbz2 but I am also getting error messages for media-sound:lame-3.99~0.tbz2

I have made 5 attempts over the last 12 hours with no success. Error messages below:

>> # [1] pkg.sabayon.org => app-admin:system-config-printer-common-1.3.7~0.tbz2
>> ## ( mirror #1 ) Error downloading from: http://pkg.sabayon.org - data not available on this mirror.

>> ## ( mirror #18 ) Downloading from: http://pkg.sabayon.org
>> ## ( mirror #18 ) Error downloading from: http://pkg.sabayon.org - wrong checksum.
>> ## Cannot properly fetch package! Quitting.
>> ## An error occured. Action aborted.
>> @@ Download incomplete.

Strangely enough - even though I'm getting error messages for lame, the package is in var/lib/entropy/client/packages/packages/x86/5/

have you tryed another mirror?
some mirrors just don't have all the packages, available, or are too slow.
If you updated with sulfur, you can just "skip" the current mirror, and sulfur automattically tryes the next mirror.

I've left it to go through all the mirrors (I use CLI rather than sulfur). The quotes I gave were just a small part of a massive list and I selected those because they were pkg.sabayon.org which is the last on my list and normally successful.

hmm, i just successfully updated the same packages on X86 KDE , so it's not a architecture issue.
don't know what's happening here, since im not experience the same problem.
you could download a ebuild and try to install with portage.
it's not in portage, so you need a overlay, or download it from internet....

Putting a package in using portage when it's available in entropy would just mask the error. I tried a different approach and did
Code: Select all
equo update --force
and then
Code: Select all
equo install app-admin/system-config-printer-common-1.3.7~0.tbz2 --nodeps
after 18 mirrors I got this:

>> ## ( mirror #18 ) Error downloading from: http://pkg.sabayon.org - wrong checksum.
>> ## Cannot properly fetch package! Quitting.
>> ## An error occured. Action aborted.
>> @@ Download incomplete.

I am totally perplexed. If the checksum check relies on a file on my PC to compare to the download then that may be the culprit but I don't know which file to delete. If the checksum doesn't rely on that, there is something awry with either the package or the information on the server. It certainly isn't a fault in my connection or I would have these errors popping up on different packages all the time.

Further information. I went to pkg.sabayon.org and downloaded the file directly and also the etp file and it's md5sum. The etp file checked as correct so I tried just running that and got the same error messages but this time within sulfur. There's an error somewhere and I don't think it's on my machine.

don't know if it helps, or if it's a very bad advise.,
but if the error persists within entropy, locally stored on the drive,
i'd deleted the whole content of directory "/etc/entropy/" (in virtualbox)
and rebuild it with portage., doing the following:
as root,
Code: Select all
layman -a sabayon

Code: Select all
layman -S

Code: Select all
emerge -1av entropy

Code: Select all
equo update --force

Code: Select all
equo upgrade

again, i'm not experience the same problem, so i don't know if it helps, or if it's a very bad advise,
so please ask on the forum to a more experienced sabayon user, before doing this...

joost, I'm not sure what you mean by "it is on the mirrors". Do you mean that the there is a broken package on the mirrors or just that the package is on the mirrors. I have had no trouble finding the package on the mirrors but the checksum doesn't match.
