CUPS Printer Controller [Solved]

Postby dhinds » Sun Sep 11, 2011 18:55

I'm using Sabayon v.6 Gnome 64bit and having a hard time installing the printer driver. Sabayon recognizes the printer (a Konica-Minolta Magicolor 1650EN, which has a postscript driver for Linux) correctly but when I try to point it to the ppd file, I get "unable to write to because Permission denied". I check the properties of the ppd file (which I had copied to the home directory) and find nothing I need to remove.

What steps am I leaving out?

TIA for pointing me to the solution.

Generally, only a root user should add a Cups Printer.
Did you run the Add-Printer Cups Utility as root or were you asked for the root password?

Thanks for your response.

Neither - In System Settings I selected Printers from the Hardware class, then Add Printer. With the USB Printer connected and turned on, Sabayon recognizes the printer but when I point it to the ppd file, it won't accept it. So how can I do this as a root user? Does Sabayon have anything similar to Yast (OpenSuse)?

TIA

Right now, I am logged into Debian working on a QT project and can't log out........ so I am unable to look at my Sabayon install but...........
I suggest just logging into the CUPS admin tool via Firefox. Paste this in your FF url address field and try adding a printer from here
