Gnome 3 - Activities? [Solved]

Post by MarekS » Sun Aug 07, 2011 14:32

I've been upgraded to Gnome 3.
Where are Activities?

The Activities Overview is a key feature of the GNOME 3 desktop. Accessible through the Activities button, top-left hot corner or windows key, it is the portal to all your computing activities. The overview allows you to see all of your windows at once and can be used to switch between tasks and launch applications.

I can't see the button or hot corner, and I don't know what windows key is being talked about. Top left I have Applications and Places. There is nothing on the desktop - it's just a stripy no-go area.

With my laptop, gnome 3 installs nicely but I have the same problem as described here... (Intel GM 945 chipset)
Installed gnome-shell, gnome-tweak-tool and did everything explained here: http://joostruis.wordpress.com/2011/08/04/149/

But no success at all...

Alas, now seems there are problems with some applications, mostly games, they doesn't start.

By running glxgears, it seems there are problem with OpenGL

Code: Select all

Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

It seems then that it is installed not so nicely after all...

In my other computer, with a NVIDIA GTX 500 Ti, X directly crashed after the update... nor installing KDE resolve the issue.

After another update today that pulled in like 222 packages mine is fixed. I got gnome 3 running smooth.

i have a related problem... similar , not identical.

i have acceleration 3D, i reinstalled shell, i rebooted, i carried out equo libtest aned deptest commands, but my GNOME3 only have the wallpaper...
no activities, no terminal, sometimes boot without mouse and keyboard controls....

neither works...

all the suggestions in this post were unsucessfull.

previously i dont have GNOME in this installation, only XFCE.
now, XFCE works great, GNOME3 not, but the new GNOME3 packages working good, but into a XFCE session.

You need to install gnome-shell-extensions.
