Today I updated(gnome 3 instalation) my laptop sabayon (asus 1201-nl) and during the process sulfur crashed, and I was forced to kill X.After that i couldn´t start X, so I entered in console finished the instalation.
Code: Select all

After that I still have problems and i couldn't pass by password step, so i look in foruns and I have tryed this sugestions and fail.
http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?t=24865
Other sugestion that i have found in sabayon foruns couldn't help me, so what can I do?

Did you get any error, warning messages when you tried to start your x server? Can you post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log if the next advices do not work? And what suggestions did you already try?

Generic troubleshooting follows:
Remove your xorg.conf
Code: Select all
rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Use the nvidia tool to generate a new xorg.conf
Code: Select all
nvidia-xconfig

Prevent the automatic x configuration service to overwrite your config each time your reboot.
Code: Select all
rc-update del x-setup boot

Look into
Code: Select all
/etc/conf.d/xdm

is DISPLAYMANAGER set to gdm?

You are sure you have the nvidia-driver for your kernel version installed?
Code: Select all
equo search linux-sabayon

Code: Select all
equo search nvidia-drivers

You don't need to add limbo. So can you log into your kde session from gdm or not?
You'll need to take the log right after you encounter your issue because it gets overwritten each time.
On your console you may
Code: Select all
less /var/log/Xorg.0.log

to read through it and pick up any errors.
or just move it so you can read it next time you log into gnome
Code: Select all
mv /var/log/Xorg.0.log /var/log/Xorg.0.log.issue

I don't have KDE, only gnome.
I put login name and password(its very ugly and have big letters), and the display turns black and then goes back to login screen.

Ps: popsUlfr i din't saw your message and i will try to do that.

Re: gdm won't start after update.

Look into
Code: Select all
/etc/conf.d/xdm

is DISPLAYMANAGER set to gdm?

You are sure you have the nvidia-driver for your kernel version installed?
Code: Select all
equo search linux-sabayon

Code: Select all
equo search nvidia-drivers

The kernel version is the same in nvidia drivers, and regarding to display manager is set as gdm.

EDIT: Didn't solve the problem
Generic troubleshooting follows:
Remove your xorg.conf
Code: Select all
rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Use the nvidia tool to generate a new xorg.conf
Code: Select all
nvidia-xconfig

Prevent the automatic x configuration service to overwrite your config each time your reboot.
Code: Select all
rc-update del x-setup boot

EDIT2: when I was removing x-setup from rc-update I foun xdm is starting on boot, shouldn't be gdm?

Whoops, very sorry. I got the Threads confused my bad.

Ps: popsUlfr i din't saw your message and i will try to do that.

So you get only the console when starting Sabayon and you don't see x starting?

Actually you specify which "environment" gets loaded by setting the DISPLAYMANAGER variable to your preferred well... display manager in /etc/conf.d/xdm. xdm is the service starting the x server which in turn loads your preferred graphical environment.

You basically get a text login prompt upon boot instead of the graphical one?
xdm service might not be on the boot runlevel
Code: Select all
rc-update add xdm boot

but why'd it be removed all of the sudden :( ?

I have a "grafical" login and a litlle console in right down corner, and I belive that X is starting, because when I in console, using Crtl+Alt+F1 and type startx I get an error telling me that X is already started.
xdm is on boot level, and I didn't add it.

Ok so the problem at hand is the login manager not accepting your password? Because the x server seems to be alright if you get to your graphical login manager. And what is this console in the corner? I'm intrigued.
