Black text on black background KDE problem [Solved]

Postby NotExcessive » Thu Aug 04, 2011 8:21

I'm currently running the latest version of KDE and for some reason a couple of days ago, when I powered up the PC, the plasma widgets showed me black text on a black (or very very dark) background. I've tried the trick of copying the /etc/skel directory to home, but that didn't do the trick. Any suggestions?

Maybe you are not looking for this type of fix but I usually.................

Work with System Settings > Appearence and Choose Colors
From there you can adjust Colors of Text-Active ..InActive of all types...

Then you can save the Theme as a Custom Theme..
Most Widgets will adhere/follow these changes.
A few Widgets such as YAWP (yet another weather program) have their own color preferences.

I just removed and reinstalled the skel package and that seems to have worked.

Good! :)
Sure that can work if corruption is the culprit.
.....etc/skel is only a base Dir template given to a user when it is created. So, if something is Corrupt then the recreation does work. More pointedly the issues that arise in the corruption of the home dir and KDE are usually traceable to .ICEauthority and/or .Xauthority. These can be regenerated in the Home dir by simply deleting both which will regenerate once you Restart KDE....

You can see the files by
Code: Select all
 ls -A /etc/skel
 ls -A /etc/YourHomeDir

If you continue to have issues with particular widgets then consider the Color modifications in my previous Post..
