Bluetooth adapter not found [Solved]

Postby harmon » Tue Jul 12, 2011 21:00

Hi!
Since the last update I cannot connect to my BT mouse; starting BT from system settings I get:
No Bluetooth adapters have been found

In other distris there is a command to activate the adapter, but in SL Terminal as root:
Code: Select all
sabayon ~ # hid2hci --method=dell --vendor=413c --product=8156
bash: hid2hci: command not found...

Last update: I can' t remember a relevance concerning BT. So what could have happened?
How to solve? Any similar command?

Hi!
On PCLinuxOS, where the BT mouse is working I got the following:
Code: Select all
[[email protected] ~]# lsmod | grep blue
bluetooth              51698  10 hidp,rfcomm,sco,bnep,l2cap,btusb
rfkill                 12694  4 bluetooth,dell_laptop,cfg80211
[[email protected] ~]# lsmod | grep hid
hidp                   10461  1
l2cap                  39423  21 hidp,rfcomm,bnep
bluetooth              51698  10 hidp,rfcomm,sco,bnep,l2cap,btusb
usbhid                 31267  0
hid                    63565  2 hidp,usbhid
usbcore               117639  9 snd_usb_audio,snd_usbmidi_lib,btusb,uvcvideo,uhci_hcd,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd,usbhid

I suppose some users have a connection to a BT mouse:
Could you please post your outputs? In SL I got no output running the lsmod | grep - commands.
Again PCL:
Code: Select all
[[email protected] ~]# lsusb
...
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0a5c:4500 Broadcom Corp. BCM2046B1 USB 2.0 Hub (part of BCM2046 Bluetooth)

Just a rememberance from the past, have you tried to run:
(as root)
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/bluetooth start

maybe that daemon is not running and your bluetooth does not get recognized...

Hi!
The last days I was searching for hours in forums, with Google, tried several "solutions", but no luck.
No success with your advice, micia.
The problem is, that the adapter is not recognized; to solve that I need a command similar to the "hid2hci"
(working in other Linux distributions).

You don't need gnome-bluetooth if you're using KDE (I don't know why I have it installed, actually, as I'm not using GNOME myself. Looks like I installed it on 14 Feb. this year for some reason or other.) I doubt you need pybluez either, but you could try installing that to see what happens.

Here's what modules I have loaded:

Code: Select all
$ lsmod | grep blue
bluetooth              45527  9 sco,bnep,rfcomm,l2cap,btusb

If I understand you correctly, you don't have any bluetooth module loaded? If that is the case, have you tried the following?:

Code: Select all
# modprobe bluetooth

then check again with the lsmod command. If the module is loaded, then use the command:

Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/bluetooth restart

Hi!
Sorry - no effect.
i)
Code: Select all
sabayon harmon # lsmod | grep blue
nothing

Code: Select all
sabayon harmon # modprobe bluetooth
sabayon harmon # lsmod | grep blue
bluetooth             100651  0
sabayon harmon # /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart
 * Starting Bluetooth ...                                                                  [ ok ]
 *   Starting rfcomm ...                                                                   [ ok ]
sabayon harmon # hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device

Starting Internet/ BlueDevil
Some seconds -> minimizing to the panel ->nothing
After rebooting:
Code: Select all
sabayon harmon # lsmod | grep blue
sabayon harmon # modprobe bluetooth
sabayon harmon # lsmod | grep blue
bluetooth             100651  0
sabayon harmon # hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device
sabayon harmon # /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart
 * Starting Bluetooth ...                                                                  [ ok ]
 *   Starting rfcomm ...                                                                   [ ok ]
sabayon harmon # hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device
sabayon harmon # lsmod | grep blue
bluetooth             100651  3 rfcomm
sabayon harmon # hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device

Weird: After having rebooted: "grep blue" -> nothing! Some steps later: rfcomm.
It's not:

I'm sorry, harmon, but I'm running out of ideas. I wonder if this is a problem with the latest kernel, or the configuration of it. I'm using the 2.6.37-sabayon kernel (with a couple of changes, but nothing changed by me at all in the Bluetooth config). Can you try downgrading the kernel using kernel-switcher, to see if that solves the problem? If not, perhaps you should file a bug report in the SL Bugzilla to see if one of the developers is using Bluetooth successfully with the Sabayon 2.6.39-r9 kernel (I take it that's the one you're using?).
