KDE........

Downloaded KDE 1.x in 1999 onto a number 3.5 diskettes installed it and never looked back..
The Art, Contributions and Flexibility (especially Virtual Desktops) is a winner.
While I do keep GNome, Xfce and Ldxe installs of other Distros they are not my primary DE.
I will use another DE just to use a Linux install but really prefer KDE.
Also
When I develop a Desktop App I use QT Designer it is a Great Tool.......
Criticism accepted for Solutions that work. ;^)

Voted Gnome and the biggest reason is it doesn't eat my settings or files. And it doesn't make major interface changes by fiat. -Pk

i can't choose, so i installed them both.
but mainly i'm on KDE.
it seems hard to believe, but in my experience,
i found out that if you install Sabayon CoreCDX
and just install the meta package: kde-base/kdebase-startkde-4.6.5 ,
KDE is actually faster and more responsive than Gnome.

I have a AMD 5000+ dual core and when im installing KDE this way,
i benefit more from my dual core, than when installing Gnome.

Enlightenment desktop. That was the thing that brought me here. I searched for E17 desktop distributions, and Sabayon headed the list. I drove Elive for a short while, but had some minor problems. The newer, updated Elive won't install to hard drive, unless you pay for an installation file. No one else really offers an Enlightenment desktop environment.

All of that said - I'm using Gnome right now, because Sabayon 6 isn't yet available with Enlightenment. I did attempt to install 5.5 Enlightenment - but ran into troubles. I could probably do it now, after a few botched attempts.

I really want a lightweight desktop. Sure, my computer has enough computing power to run a dozen heavyweight desktops at the same time. But, why? Not to mention, Enlightenment is as pretty, or prettier, than any heavyweight with tons of eyecandy.

SL 6 with Enlightenment 17 has been available since 12 July 2011: Press Release: Sabayon Linux 6 XFCE, LXDE, E17.

there's a special version of Elive for the Zeitgeist Movement, free installable, without having to pay.

Until I tested Fedora 15 Gnome3 I preferred Gnome (Gnome2); I would never install Gnome3.
Now I prefer KDE.
