Sabayon 5.5 can´t create wifi interfaces [Solved]

Postby kxp » Wed Apr 06, 2011 20:49

Hello

Yesterday I have some problems with ubuntu and dicided to change to sabayon 5.5 Gnome, heard very good things about it, but after instalation I realise that wifi card wasn't instaled at start. So I start googling a lot and try a lot of things like this to threads:
http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4382
http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=23215
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/ath9k_htc
And at least I tryed to compile the wireless drivers of my usb card that I found on this site http://linuxwireless.org./en/users/Download/stable/#compat-wireless_2.6.37_stable_releases and it came with an error when I try to compile the drivers.

I run "lspci" and "lsusb -v" and the two cards are detected but when i run iwconfig or ifconfig -a ther is no wifi interface.
I have an Asus 1201-NL with 3gb. The wifi cards that I want to configure are:
Tp-link WN722N USB (the chip I think is Atheros AR5416, driver ath9k_htc)
Realtek RTL 8191SE
kernel 2.6.37-sabayon, clean installation no updates.

If anyone could helping me installing both it would be amazing :) otherwise I need to install ubuntu again (they work):\

Ps:sorry about my errors and grammar

Sorry for being late, I had some work to do and I had no time to google for this too much :P

I have not your wifi card, so I hope that someone more qualified than me steps in, however if the chipset is Atheros AR5416, the correct module should be the ath5k (at least that is what I found out googling around), you can check the output from:
(as root)
Code: Select all
lspci

to verify the card's chipset.

Last night I was able to compile and install the drivers for atheros chip, previous site i show, and realtek, from this site http://www.wireless-driver.com/realtek-rtl8191se-rtl8192se-wireless-drivers-utility/, but the problem continues.
What can i do? :?

So, you have the wireless card integrated with your laptop and an external USB wireless, let's try to make them work one by one. I'd try to remove the USB one, and try to make the Realtek one work.
I am reading that it should work with the rtl8192se driver, available in entropy. Do not compile and install manually drivers or package, it is higly discouraged, it is a bad habit of many tutorials and guides from many distributions and it will most likely lead to a damaged system sooner or later.
If you installed manually drivers for that card, remove them before proceeding.
Try this:
(as root)
Code: Select all
equo install rtl8192se --ask

it should pull the driver and the firmware package.
now try to run:
(as root)
Code: Select all
modprobe -v r8192se_pci

and check again the output from:
(as root)
Code: Select all
ifconfig
iwconfig

could you please, explain exactly what you did to make the RTL card work?
Did you use the drivers from entropy or did you do a full kernel recompile using the drivers from the site you mentioned above?
