Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300? [Solved]

Postby packetknife » Mon Mar 07, 2011 22:23

Does anybody have experience with this under 5.5/2.6.37-sabayon?

A repaired laptop is coming back with that card as opposed to the Atheros is shipping out with. I'm not complaining about the upgrade but I want to check and see if anybody has tried this particular Intel offering. Cheers, -Pk

I don't have one myself, but the kernel supports that model. The stock SL 2.6.37 kernel has several Intel wireless controllers enabled:

Code: Select all
$ cat /usr/src/linux/.config | grep IWL
CONFIG_IWLWIFI=m
# CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUG is not set
CONFIG_IWLAGN=m
CONFIG_IWL4965=y
CONFIG_IWL5000=y
CONFIG_IWL3945=m
$ uname -r
2.6.37-sabayon

and the iwlagn module is the driver module for your new wireless card.

You need to have the correct microcode image (package iwl6000-ucode) installed for the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300. So, if it is not already installed, install iwl6000-ucode.

Code: Select all
$ eix iwl6
* net-wireless/iwl6000-ucode
     Available versions:  (~)9.221.4.1
     Homepage:            http://intellinuxwireless.org/?p=iwlwifi
     Description:         Intel (R) Wireless WiFi Advanced N 6000 ucode

* net-wireless/iwl6050-ucode
     Available versions:  (~)9.201.4.1 (~)41.28.5.1
     Homepage:            http://intellinuxwireless.org/?p=iwlwifi
     Description:         Intel (R) Wireless WiFi Link 6250-AGN ucode

Thanks much. The card works great and the few problems I was having appear to have been related to a specific router I was connecting too. Cheers, -Pk
