Why is there no syslog?

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get syslog and daemon logs running? Seems strange they don't automatically start. On other versions of Linux they are there.

enter the following in terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo equo install app-admin/syslog-ng-3.1.2
and as root:

Code: Select all

rc-update add syslog-ng default
to start the deamon at the default runlevel.
Next time you restart syslog will be there.

syslog-ng is already installed on Sabayon

rc-update show | grep syslog

Hi there,

Since syslog is in version 3 it is writing the log informations to /var/log/messages and not /var/log/syslog.
