suse, microsoft deal oh my

Postby random guy » Tue Nov 14, 2006 3:28

ya it is off topic of sabayon but this is off topic section of the forums.

i bet we all got some strong opinions on the whole suse + microsoft thing. i dont know if a boycott will really do anything but it seems like that is becoming really popular now.

i dont buy novel products anyway so it is not a change for me...

comments?

When they said Microsoft and SUSE are joining forces, does that mean that Microsoft is now apart of the linux's trademark?

I just doesn't understand, what's the reason for boycotting?

On the Enterprise's server side, I would only trust RedHat.

ya a lot of people critize red hat for being buisness oriented but hey someone needs to fill the need with some tech support. not everyone can be computer savy especailly when busy with other stuff. plus red hat supports the gpl 100%. i think a lot of people will move from suse to red hat over this.

thing is the putting the microsoft trademark with suse is in violation of the gpl. they cant just make an exclusive deal with a corporation and mix the gpl and comerical stuff. so technically it against the license, but who enforces it? no one can inforce them breaking the license. so only thing they can do is show novell that we dont like the fact that they are selling out to microsoft and giving them money because of our work.

we are their target customer.

it is on the latest distrowatch weekly from yesterday if you want to read about it from someone who knows more than i do...

I read through the distrowatch discussion and I still don't get it all. That's okay though I never cared for SUSE. It sure is causing an uproar though. I like to live by the "keep it simple stupid" rule if at all possible

It will be interesting to see what happens though.

See this

Ballmer: Linux users owe Microsoft

Ballmer did not provide details during his comments today. But he was adamant that Linux users, apart from those using SUSE, are taking advantage of Microsoft innovation, and that someone -- either Linux vendors or users -- would eventually have to pay up.

This partnership with Suse is nothing but a crook job - now they are trying to make the rest of the distros look bad. Dispise em both till no end.

If they have something real, we'll find a way to deal with it, all this hype is no good for anyone.
