Please post the output of the commands lsusb and lsmod, run as the root user in a Konsole/Terminal window.

Well, I don't have your hardware, but I have my doubts that you need all those RT modules loaded simultaneously. For example, rt2x00usb is presumably a driver for a USB wireless controller, which you don't have, so I'd blacklist rt2x00usb for a start.

To blacklist a module you add a line per module to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist as follows:

Code: Select all
blacklist rt2800usb

(or whatever the module is called) and then:

Code: Select all
update-modules

Then look in /etc/modprobe.conf to see if the module is blacklisted and, if it is, reboot and use:

Code: Select all
lsmod

to check that the module is not loaded this time. If it isn't, try to get a wireless connection. Give that a shot and let us know the output of lsmod.

According to the current version of the article Rt2860sta in the Gentoo Linux Wiki, the open-source driver rt2x00 is not working (that may be out-of-date information, I don't know). Anyway, if the above experiment does not work, the next course of action I would suggest would be to add the rt2x00pci and rt2x00lib modules to the blacklist.

According to the Gentoo Wiki article Ralink RT2860 the rt2860sta module (you'll notice from the output of lsmod that it is also loaded) does work, so there is hope, depending on the precise chipset. Who is the manufacturer and what is the precise model number of your PCI wireless card?

Just in case another SL user searches these forums for help with the same model of wireless card as that owned by the OP, Google tells me that it uses the Ralink 2860 chipset, so the first thing to do is make sure the firmware for that chipset is installed (the package and version currently in the Entropy repository is net-wireless/ralink-rt2860-firmware-11), and then try to see if you can connect to your local network. If you still cannot get a connection even though the rt2860sta module (driver) is loaded (check by using the lsmod command as root user), then I would suggest you try blacklisting the other Ralink modules (rt2x00, rt2800) as mentioned in my earlier post so as to just leave the rt2860sta module (driver) active. If someone who uses this hardware can confirm this (or amend it), please do post.
