Firefox crashes

Postby ed57 » Tue Nov 14, 2006 18:54

Hi team and members,

I work with KDE and I noticed this very annoying thing since I installed Sabayon : Firefox crashes often when I click on a link or elsewhere (it closes itself and I have to reopen it everytime). I read nothing similar on the forum, is this a Firefox or a KDE issue ?

I would be really happy to fix this problem !

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,

after having re-emerged firefox (64 bits), the problem remains the same. I tried to use the binary version for a while and it seems that the odd behaviour is away. (sorry for my poor english  )

I wonder if that comes from Gnash still experimental include in firefox 64. Anyway, that doesn't matter, I will be using firefox-bin until the 3.2 release will be out and see if the problem keeps going on.

@ lxnay and cvill64 : thank you very much for the good job done for the noobs to gentoo like me and for having build a gentoo system oriented for people new to linux (and for those who don't want to spend their time to install and compile all the stuff from scratch ! )

End of November will be interesting ... :D

Does it crash when you are clicking on a link to video?

Mine did it until I emerged the mplayer plugin..
I still get it on some crashes on links to .wmv files on occasion.

Blair

Yeah, I know

I know what they are talking about. Firefox 64-bit is kinda unstable. It has random crashing problems. I had problems with X restarting and couldn't figure out why and eventually found out that it only happened if I had the firefox 64-bit open.

Well, I see I'm not the only one with this issue.

@Deadpenguin : no it crashes anytime on any links or clicks (but it's very random)

The 32 bits version works fine at present ... 8)

I think it's firefox and KDE that causing the problems because for one, it took me 2+ hours emerge mozilla firefox, and when it was done it's changed it's name to Bon Echo. When I lauched the program told me to contact the author because of programming issues.
Also, KDE causes firefox to run incredible slow at times and it disable the sound for internet media.
These problems are normally fixed when I use gnome or a different environment.
