Possible to exclude application from AIGLX compositing?

Postby ed » Mon Nov 13, 2006 17:36

I'm using Sabayon 3.1 with AIGLX and Beryl with an nVIDIA 6600GT and the beta 95 series drivers. Compositing works very well in general and I think I'm going to use it full time.

I am wondering if it's possible to disable compositing for an individual application in AIGLX. I have seen a way of doing so with XGL on nVIDIA cards:

The first main reason for me wanting to is because Amarok seems to thrash X when the spectrum analyzer is running and AIGLX is enabled. The second is that although I do get 3D acceleration in games, they do run noticeably slower. I have benchmarked Nexuiz and get 32fps compared to 53fps.

sure, its possible, or you can just turn off and on aiglx when you need it using the accel-manager package ;)

you can use xnest or other method like the xgl method, its all possible, but I get no problems with amarok on ati, intel, or nvidia, you might want to build up to the newest version and see if that helps any in general

Or just use beryl-manger to switch from KWin to Beryl and vice-versa.
