how can I install g77??[Solved]

Post by donpicoro » Fri Nov 10, 2006 2:24

hello folks, I used the 3.1 DVD to install my sabayon machine.
The instalation went fine but I need the g77 compiler to run some of my programs (i'm physicist) but the command is not found.
I tried to emerge the g77 package but there is no ebuild for that so I emerge the gcc complete compiler. it took a time and after that, guess what? NOTHING. My sabayon machine still doesn't have the FORTRAN compiler.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot

P.d: I'm formerly a slackware user so forgive for not understanding the emerge stuff and all this gentoo ideas

okay, so the fortran compiler that ships with gcc4.x is now called gfortran and is a F90 compiler.

That should work fine for what you need. However, if you can't use that, IT SEEMS (but I cannot confirm this) that you much recompile gcc w/o fortran and then emerge gcc 3.4.4 with g77 use flag enabled to use the g77 compiler. It also seems that g77 and gfortran conflict with each other
