installation - Dell Insprion [Solved]

Postby AClockworkOrange » Fri Sep 24, 2010 17:41

Hello,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post the error. I'm new to Sabayon, but not to Linux (I mostly use Mandriva). I have tried to install Sabayon to my laptop, which is a Dell Inspiron, but when I get to the prompt "Write changes to disk?", I get the following error (this is only the head and tail of the error message):

I have also tried the SpinBase CD and I get the same error. Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Re: installation - Dell Insprion

Postby Fitzcarraldo » Fri Sep 24, 2010 18:10

I'm going to move your thread into the Installation shed (forum) as I think it's more appropriate.

Your problem appears to be the same as that in SL Bug Report 1554, which is supposed to have been resolved.

Hopefully someone with expertise with the Anaconda installer will chip in, but I have a few questions for you:

1. Are you connected to the Internet when you install so that the Installer can check if there are any updates (there used to be an Update Installer button - I'm not sure if it's still there with SL 5.3 or whether it's automatic now? Try running the following command as root user when you're using the LiveDVD before running the Installer:

Code: Select all
liveinst-update-quick

2. Have you tried installing in Text Mode instead?

3. What is your HDD and partition scheme?

4. Have you tried using a LiveCD/DVD such as SystemRescueCd with GParted on it, and using GParted to create the partitions before booting the SL LiveDVD and running the Anaconda Installer?

5. Can you get at any log files?

6. Although I don't think it is the cause of your problem, did you check the md5sum of the ISO before burning it to DVD or installing it to a USB pen drive with UNetbootin. (Checking the integrity of a LiveDVD/CD)

Alright, I'm installing now. Running
Code: Select all
liveinst-update-quick
(so far) seems to have done the trick. I must have missed that somewhere. Many, many thanks!

EDIT: It seems to be working now.
