Get Out Of Crash Without Rebooting

Post by Square Bottle » Sat Oct 28, 2006 9:41

So when we talked a while ago about how remarkably stable Sabayon is, I remember somebody saying something about how even when it crashes, you don't need to reboot if you know your stuff.

I fiddled around the next time my computer crashed, pressing Alt-F2 and trying the "startx" command after logging in since it appeared to be a terminal of some kind, but that didn't work.

At any rate, what's the trick here?

if there's a X server crash, I would try (personally):

from shell, become root (type su) and then i will type:

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/xdm restart

If you just lose your window borders (IE beryl crashes) you can go to an open konsole, or use the k menu -> run -> kwin (or beryl again).
