Sabayon Crashes during install [Solved]

Postby franknbeans » Wed Apr 28, 2010 14:16

Every time I try to install Sabayon X86_64 for Gnome using the graphical install it crashes with the follow error.

Componet: Sabayon Linux Installer
Version: 0.99.38.7
Summary: TB489c5ab5 pickle.py:971:load_string:LookupError: unknown encoding: string-escape

Not sure what is going on. I guess I'll try the text installer. The live cd works fine. Below are the system specs.

Dell Studio XPS 13
Intel P8800 Core 2 Duo
8 GB of DDR ram
256 GB samsung SSD
Nvidia 210m 512mb of ram.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks

Update also fails during text install but doesn't give a message. On reboot it gets to the grub prompt and that is it.

This is a well-known bug with some harddrives. Try to avoid LVM and/or the ext4-filesystem. Then Sabayon should install fine....

I made it past it finally.

Here is what I did.

1. Booted into the live cd.
2. Opened up a terminal
3. Aligned the ssd using fdisk -S 32 -H 32 /dev/sda
4. set up 3 partitions using fdisk one boot, one swap and root
5. Using fdisk set the first partition to boot and the second to swap.
6. Formatted the partitions using mkfs.ext4 -b 1024 -E stride=128 -E stripe-width=128 -O ^has_journal /dev/sda1 on the boot partition and mkfs.ext4 -b 1024 -E stride=128 -E stripe-width=128 /dev/sda3 on the root partition.
7. Ran install on Disk from the desktop in live cd.
8. Selected the boot partition to go to \boot and root partition to go to \
9. Selected the system to format the swap partition.

Though I think you are write on ext4. Because inside the installer it automatically switch my boot partition from ext4 to ext2
