Sabayon 5.2 K: do not remove KJots?! [Solved]

Postby donnie » Mon Apr 05, 2010 19:20

hai

I had Sabayon 5.2 installed, KDE version...

I started from reading Wiki, emerge --sync && layman -S
Emerged Portage and Midnight Commander.
equo install Chromium KGet Amarok && equo remove Firefox Yakuake k3b

When updates of SL arrived, and i understood i should remove some unnecessary stuff. For example, World of Goo didnt work.
So i equo remove --deep --configfiles Games OpenOffice XBMC

After that 150 more updates arrived, i equo remove --deep --empty --configfiles magneto-loader
Using Sulfur, updated Entropy (only 18M without that notifier, no kde4 dependencies)
That was clever. Package manager was up to date, so I decided to remove some more stuff i never use.

equo remove --deep --empty --configfiles kjots

equo install konsole
equo conf update
equo install kdebase-runtime-meta
equo install sulfur

Only Konsole seems working. Trying to reboot...

From a console:
Code: Select all
equo install entropy

Code: Select all
equo update

Code: Select all
equo upgrade

And after it's done:

Code: Select all
equo deptest

Code: Select all
equo libtest

And the best way to remove unwanted packages is
Code: Select all
equo remove packagename  --nodeps

I'm writing this comment directly from GRUB :)

Sabayon wallpaper disappiared from there, and grub can't find my sabayon kernel. Me, too :)

So, i have:

+a netbook (no DVD)
+a USB (but, I installed SL from my /dev/sda7 using this article http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... _The_Image)
+a GRUB
+/dev/sda7 - partition from which i booted to SL for the first time
+/dev/sda1 - there was a CrunchBang Linux installation there - using GRUB i still can find /sbin/grub-install
+/dev/sda2 - small ext2 boot partition, formatted and mounted as /boot during installation

So, how to install Sabayon Linux? Should i edit /boot/grub.conf to add SL partition there, and run grub-install /dev/sda from the GRUB?? This is only hope, i have no internets

I have booted Sabayon Linux from HDD's /dev/sda7 !!

Article in Wiki is not quite relevant for booting livecd from HDD partition, when ONLY GRUB is installed. So, GRUB instructions (not /boot/grub.conf !!) for Lenovo IdeaPad S10 are:

insmod ext2
set root=(hd0,7)
linux /boot/sabayon root=/dev/ram0 aufs init=/linuxrc cdroot=/dev/sda7 looptype=squashfs max_loop=64 loop=/livecd.squashfs splash=verbose quiet
initrd /boot/sabayon.igz

How that equo remove --deep --empty killed my system?? Many questions, now I can look around a bit and try resurrect...
