Installer crashes

Postby vinoman » Wed Mar 31, 2010 0:27

I've tried to install both 32bit and 64bit Sabayon 5.2 and the installer crashed in both versions.

I wonder how many other people couldn't install it because of faulty installer.

I'll try Sabayon when you put out ver. 5.3 maybe it will install then.

uhhhhm ok. just to start.
did you use the KDE or GNOME DVD
did you cheack the md5 sum
did you burn it on the slowest speed possible
have you searched the forum for related problems
what are you installing this on
are you dual booting
if dual booting did you use win7/vista to repartion before you tried to install
are you installing with the text installer or the GUI

a question mark(?) follows all these questions. these need to be answered before even the linux gods could help you out.
Thank you

Throdon, Please see my post earlier today about the installer bombing (crashing). I tried all your suggestions and then some with the same result(s) it crashed. There appears to be a bug with the installer.

I would suggest to vinoman that he post his system info and configuration so the developer(s) might be able to compare our systems and narrow the bug down.

Thanks

vinoman this is what I am talking about with all these questions.http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?t=20226 use lone wolf as an example of the info we need to even start to brainstorm your problem . read your post about the installer and read his, essentially you have the same problem but his is potentially easier to solve because he lists hardware and and even has error files.
if you need help with system info, search on how to find it. if you need help posting errors and logs ask in the begginers forum. also http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=16505.

I don't like making duplicate threads and not sure where to report bugs, but i had the same issue this afternoon after doing a fresh install of Sabayon5.2 (gnome). The installer crashes while attempting to overwrite existing partitions (in my case, ubuntu/sabayon kde/winvista)

Error log here: http://www.sabayon.org/pastie/3589

That was during the LiveCD mode installer.

I managed to install Sabayon (without a crash) by selecting "graphical install" from the boot up menu.
Hope thats of any use.
