Hi,

check these guys : http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1072501.html
you can read there how to rudimentary change the brightness. If it works, you can bind the command to a shortcut you want to use, except Fn :)

To check if you can enable the Fn keys, you could find out if these are ACPI keys or not to do so start acpid and use acpi_listen
Code: Select all
# /etc/init.d/acpid start

after that

Code: Select all
# acpi_listen

While that is running hit all intersting Fn keys

If there is no result, try
Code: Select all
xev
and also hit the keys and see if they are detected as normal keys.

If that both does not give you an output, these Fn combis are lost.

hi thanks for response
when i enter this as root
smb96 wrote:/etc/init.d/acpid start

it says that acpid is alredy started
this
smb96 wrote:acpi_listen

shows my only that Fn+F1 (which is not marked as fn key )is working and Fn+Esc and Fn+F3 is working
smb96 wrote:xev

shows same that the same and other keys are "active" with Fn combination
think that's not bad, but the brightness keys with fn are not showing any reaction
this for now i will look now the link that you have posted and write again if this works

edit
echo 60 | sudo dd of=/proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness

change setting in file brightness only but there is no reaction in brightness
adding
acpi_osi='Linux'
to menu.lst seams to not working neither
didn't try using smartdimmer because is not it's not installed (no package in repo to install )
but looks that smartdimmer is a part of powermizer on nvidia.
when i open nvidia x serwer settings i see that this powermizer is an works
any other idea ?
