Been meaning to try out Sabayon but have been a little put off by the large footprint the live DVD's will give me. With the core-cd are you in fact getting a short-cut to a gentoo-like system where it can be completely recompiled and versionless? Assuming the user would not use the binary packages and just portage are there any concerns? Can you just upgrade to a new version once one is avialable? I looked through the wiki and there seems to be a lot of warnings about mixing binary and source, but the appeal of Sabayon would be a shortcut to a source based distro. Sorry in advance if any of these questions have already been answered.
If you are new to Linux or new to Sabayon Linux and just not sure where to post, here ya go. Post without fear of being told to RTFM

You can do what you want with core, portage and entropy work just fine as they do on the mini-dvd. You can keep it rolling with portage and entropy just like the mini-dvd. You should pick one main package manager and stick with it. You can mix if you know what you are doing and there is a wiki page for it also. Remember binary will ignore all your configs if you set up for portage.
