Sabayon 3.1 and ipw3945

Postby adewolf » Sat Oct 21, 2006 17:21

Hello:
I installed Sabayon 3.1 on a Dell E1705 which has an Intel 3954 WIFI chip. When I try emerge ipw3945 after doing an emerge --sync it complains about not have kernel sources. After doing emerge gentoo-sources and try emerge ipw3945 it complains about the kernel not being configured. After running xconfig and configuring the kernel and rerunning emerge ipw3945 it complains that the kernel has not been built. No I build the kernel and it bitches that I am nto running the current kernel. Whend does this end? Why does Ubuntu work out of the box. Please fix this. This is really annoying.

The emerge ipw3945 DOES NOT WORK good bye Sabayon. PLEASE INCLUDE THE IPW3945 MODULE WITH YOUR BASE INSTALL 99.99% OF ALL LAPTOPS TODAY USE THIS CHIP.

Yes but why use ndiswrapper when there is a native Linux driver and other distros that include it in the base install and live CD/DVD.

because the native driver is HORRIBLE?
Why do I need to run a DAEMON to have a wifi card working???? No, I do not accept any technical reason. This is silly!

Huh?? OK well back to Ubuntu/mandriva/Elive for me then. Pity having to run the shitty MS driver.
Or shoudl I say that it's a pity to depent on M$ for a driver. You will loose users over this.

99,99%????????????? really :)? I can say there is a far different reality....:) first of all only intel based notebooks have that chipset, secondly...NOT ALL of the intel based notebooks have that wifi card...many use ipw2200 THAT WORKS...and the rest of notebook goes from broadcom to atheros chipset....

I have the same problem my hardware specifications are:

Thinkpad R60 UL277GE
CPU: Intel® Pentium® core duo T2500 2.0GHz
Chipsatz: Intel® 945PM Chipsatz
Grafik: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB
Sound: 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller
Lan: Intel Pro 1GBit LAN
WirelessLAN: Intel PRO Wireless 3945ABG 802.11abg
USB: Intel 82801DB/DBL/DBM

I really need wirelessLAN for my Internet connection,
without internet connection my Laptop is useless!

I'am new to linux so if its not possible with this distro
i would be thankfull if you can tell me a distro where the
wireless connection works.

Please dont let me use Windos again!
