please grab a newer release, 4.2 is pretty old.
and if you want to get help in future, we need more information:
errors if any
hardware
log files if any
what you tried - such as cheat codes and which ones.
The more information you give the better someone can help.

Hi,
I can say what I used to do in my desktop , you could try and update us whether this really helps,
1.boot with DVD to live cd environment
2.create necessary partition using fdisk like /dev/sda1 - /boot ; /dev/sda2 - swapspace ; /dev/sda3 - / ; format using mkfs.ext3 command and mkswap command resp.
3.reboot , select graphical installation.
4.select manual partition method and skip any format options that are prompted
5.proceed further and normally installation goes smooth

gin_oy, unless you have a good reason to install an out-of-date version of SL, why don't you grab a copy of the latest version, 5.1-r1 (released today, as it happens)? It has been released in both KDE and GNOME flavours, so you can take your pick: Sabayon Linux 5.1-r1 GNOME and KDE: Stable release.
