Sabayon used to have both Gnome and KDE, now they are in separate DVDs in order
to reduce the download time and let the installation be more "clean".

Installing both of them can be done simply installing, for example, the Gnome version,
booting in the system and running from a console, as root:

Code: Select all

equo update
equo install entropy equo sulfur
equo install --ask kde-meta

The same can be done after the installation of the KDE version.

Sabayon uses binary packages for the installation, but gives you the possibility of using
source packages with portage.
You can choose to use entropy (equo as TUI and sulfur as GUI) or portage (emerge as TUI and various GUIs).
Mixing them is possible but requires some experience.
See the wiki for more informations:

You already asked something similar (http://forum.sabayonlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=18899),
there was some problem with that?

(By the way, you should not make topic subjects all caps :) )

sorry 4 staying 4 long without replying i was away on the weekend.Look i have limited net so i have downloaded the 175 binaries needed for gnome but i have to put them in var/lib,entropy/packages/x86/5/ ,but unfortunately its telling me that i dont have the necessary permissions to do so.and its refusing to let me login as root.its saying that root logins are not allowed
is there another place where i can put the binaries or is there another way to install the binaries for gnome.

KDE4 root policy is quite frustrating to me, however you do not need to login as root
for such a simple task.

simply do:

Code: Select all

kdesu dolphin

from your favourite console application and copy and paste those file
anywhere you like.
