Installing Meritous [Solved]

Postby Theta » Mon Oct 26, 2009 12:49

http://asceai.net/meritous/

Well, I once installed this game on Ubuntu 8.10, but they had it in their repository.

I searched Sulfur and did
Code: Select all
emerge -s meritous

All to no avail. So I'm stuck asking, how does one install it from the source code?

It's in the sunrise overlay (http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253779):
Code: Select all
emerge --sync
layman -S
layman -a sunrise
emerge meritous

:wink:

Wow, thanks :oops: but when I do the first step I get this:

Code: Select all
sabayon username # emerge --sync
>>> Starting rsync with rsync://88.156.78.16/gentoo-portage...
timed out
rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at rsync.c(544) [receiver=3.0.6]
>>> Retrying...

>>> Starting retry 1 of 3 with rsync://81.223.20.162/gentoo-portage
timed out
rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at rsync.c(544) [receiver=3.0.6]
>>> Retrying...

>>> Starting retry 2 of 3 with rsync://194.97.4.250/gentoo-portage
timed out
rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at rsync.c(544) [receiver=3.0.6]
>>> Retrying...

>>> Starting retry 3 of 3 with rsync://80.68.87.200/gentoo-portage
timed out
rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at rsync.c(544) [receiver=3.0.6]
>>> Exceeded PORTAGE_RSYNC_RETRIES: 3

What am I doing wrong :?

Edit:

Thev00d00 - Okay, I'm doing layman -a sunrise now, will let you know when it finishes (approximately how long should this take, my internet is pretty fast :?)

Check the mirrors are valid in /etc/make.conf

Here are the ones in mine for comparison:

Code: Select all
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gentoo.imj.fr/pub/gentoo/ ftp://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/Linux/gentoo ftp://212.219.56.139/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ http://213.186.33.38/gentoo-distfiles/"

Just edit it as root user.

The ones I had in make.conf were:

Code: Select all
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gentoo.imj.fr/pub/gentoo/ http://130.59.10.35/ftp/mirror/gentoo/"

So I just overwrote them with yours.

Edit:

Got the same response as last time when doing emerge --sync :? Is it because I'm connected wirelessly via PEAP-GTC?

Edit:

Result of layman -a sunrise.

Code: Select all
sabayon username # layman -a sunrise
* Running command "/usr/bin/svn co "svn://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/sunrise/reviewed//" "/usr/local/portage/layman/sunrise""...
svn: Can't connect to host 'overlays.gentoo.org': Connection timed out
* Failed to add overlay "sunrise".
* Error was: Adding the overlay failed! Possible remains of the opration have NOT been removed and may be left at /usr/local/portage/layman/sunrise. Please remove them manually if required.

Thanks for all your prompt responses :o

Could well be.

From Gentoo Handbook:

Gentoo Handbook wrote:If you are behind a firewall that blocks rsync traffic, you can use emerge-webrsync which will download and install a portage snapshot for you.

Try that instead of plain ol' emerge, then do the emerge.

Code: Select all
emerge-webrsync
emerge --sync
layman -S
layman -a sunrise
emerge meritous

(I've stuck in the layman -S so that your Sabayon overlay package version data is also updated. The "-a" just means "add", BTW. Do a layman --help to see all the commands.)

Cool, thanks Fitzcarraldo (also for the explanation of what they mean :) )!

Currently doing emerge-webrsync, so far it's just fetching the .md5sums, albeit slowly:

Code: Select all
Fetching most recent snapshot ...
Trying to retrieve 20091025 snapshot from ftp://gentoo.imj.fr/pub/gentoo/ ...
Fetching file portage-20091025.tar.lzma.md5sum ...
Fetching file portage-20091025.tar.bz2.md5sum ...
Fetching file portage-20091025.tar.gz.md5sum ...

Yup, it'll take some time. emerge-webrsync is useful if you've got something like a firewall blocking the rsync command from downloading stuff from remote servers.
