Can't access Linux source file

Postby ThrnClwn » Tue Oct 17, 2006 0:22

Trying to run

Code: Select all
# cd /usr/src/linux

But this comes in return.

Code: Select all
bash: cd: /usr/src/linux: No such file or directory

I've been told that the right place for the source is in that folder. I need to access the Linux Kernel Config menu.

Trying to install the webcam drivers, this comes up on the list:

Code: Select all
Unable to find kernel sources at /usr/src/linux

I guess this is my kernel version: 2.6.18-gentoo?

So the correct command would be: # emerge =gentoo-sources-2.6.18

Correct?

Just to be sure, and well aware, what do you mean by: use uname -a to know?

Thanks again!

if you go to console and type

# uname -a <-------- it will tell you the kernel you're using plus some other nice info.

more than likely you will be doing a

# emerge =gentoo-sources-2.6.18

if you run:
# emerge =gentoo-sources-2.6.18.gentoo <---- it will spit an error message at you

I already did the wrong command. I guess I can do the right one now, it's not to too late?

When I tried to install the spca5xx webcam drivers, I got one error message saying

Code: Select all
Could not find a usable .config in the kernel source directory.
Please ensure that /usr/src/linux points to a configured set of Linux sources

No it's not too late - do as stated above Than

Do:

# zcat /proc/config.gz > /usr/src/config

than try to install your program again

This looks like the problem I need to solve:

Code: Select all
Kernel hacking

CONFIG_TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT=y
CONFIG_PRINTK_TIME=y
CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ is not set
CONFIG_UNUSED_SYMBOLS=y
CONFIG_DEBUG_KERNEL is not set
CONFIG_LOG_BUF_SHIFT=15
CONFIG_DEBUG_FS is not set
CONFIG_UNWIND_INFO is not set

Code: Select all
# /usr/src/config
bash: /usr/src/config: No such file or directory

Yes, I have used it, I followed some steps from http://www.sabayonlinux.org/wiki/index. ... _genkernel

Now I am at the kernel menu again, what should I do now to fix it?

Just to make it all set and installed properly.

EDIT: I just exited the menu, and it said "compiling kernel". I guess that what's supposed to happen now.

I will let it finish and come back if I need more guidence.

Thank you so far!
