General audio issues - pulseaudio permissions

Post by krznv » Tue Sep 22, 2020 20:58

I installed Sabayon Gnome on my ThinkPad-T460 and there are a number of audio issues.

The audio device doesn't seem to be recognized as seen in the screenshot provided.*

Rhythmbox plays music, but Firefox does not; Youtube, Mixcloud, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, the playback simply does not work, the website reports an error.

Last, the Fn + F1 (Mute/unmute), Fn + F2 (Vol down) and Fn + F3 (Vol up) do not work in the OS (for some reason they work in the login manager though), which is why I am reporting it as broken.

Thank you in advance for any advice and info on how to fix those issues, the main one is browser playback.

After the update the audio is broken in the Login Manager as well.

Other than the audio issues the Sabayon distro functions great and I will likely be using it for a long time to come.

The Fn + F5, Fn + F6 and Fn + Space for screen and keyboard brightness work.

I'm not really a GNOME user, but with audio it's generally just a matter of configuration. In the system settings there, is there nothing in the 'Output Device' drop down?

No it does not show any device must be something with the system config

I agree, although if it's working with rhythmbox, it has to be recognized by the OS at least somewhere.

Forgot to mention that the audio works perfectly fine in the 19.03 installer, not in the login manager though.

Let's try and gather some information about your system and maybe something will stick out.

Code: Select all

aplay -l

Code: Select all

 # lspci | grep Audio

Code: Select all

# head -n 1 /proc/asound/card0/codec*

Code: Select all

# lsmod |grep snd

Code: Select all

cat ~/.asoundrc

Code: Select all

cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf

Code: Select all

cat /etc/asound.conf
Not everything might exist, and if it doesn't, that's ok.

I think maybe we should try and follow this guide:

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/PulseAudio#Troubleshooting

starting by lauching alsamixer and seeing what it shows.

If you run into something that seems like a problem and the guide isn't clear on what to do, describe the problem here.
