What is this Lib Migration thingy?

Post by heathen » Sun Jun 28, 2020 18:38

So I got busy and distracted and hadn't done updates in awhile. Went to do them last night and today, totally knowing there was gonna be a ton of new packages, but this Lib Migration Check is stumping everything. It all seems to go well until the very end and I get this:

Code: Select all

  * Profile migration was supposed to have been done by sys-apps/sabayon-lib-migration
 * but it is not the case.
 *
 * If it didn't get installed, install it now as THE FIRST AND ONLY PACKAGE.
 * If it tried to install but failed, refer to information printed by that package.
 *
 * Stopping now. DO NOT CONTINUE THE UPGRADE UNLESS sys-apps/sabayon-lib-migration IS INSTALLED WITHOUT ERROR.
 * OTHERWISE YOUR SYSTEM WILL BE BROKEN.
 *
 * ! The process has been stopped. Press Control+C once or twice
 * ! and make sure the package manager does not continue, and see the error above.
It seems to be a rock and a hard place because I can't install any updates without it, but it says it needs those updates in order to install it. Last thing I can find on it here in the forum in "search" is from about a week ago concerning going back to an older portage??. Is there any new news on this? Should I just wait? Because I'm not having any real problems right now, just wanted to get all UTD.

The older portage thing was for a really out of date system, over a year out of date. The sabayon-lib-migration should be working for you. What happens if you try to do an 'equo i sys-apps/sabayon-lib-migration' ?

It just stops at postinstall and won't go forward at that point...

Code: Select all

╠  +++ >>>  (1/731) sys-apps/sabayon-lib-migration-1
╠    ## Unpacking: sys-apps:sabayon-lib-migration-1.6af6cdb177132f2c8963216f8b5733b9cd77442c~2.tbz2
╠    ## Installing package: sys-apps/sabayon-lib-migration-1
╠    ## [Migrate lib* as per default/linux/amd64/17.1/desktop]
╠    ## Updating installed packages repository: sys-apps/sabayon-lib-migration-1
╠ ## Cleaning previously installed application data.
╠    ## Package phase: postinstall

It'll sit right there for hours if I let it...

Restarted and tried again and now I'm getting this:

Code: Select all

* migration of lib* will be performed
 * do not interrupt this process
 *
 * *******************
 * !!!! calling unsymlink-lib --analyze
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/unsymlink-lib", line 827, in <module>
    main()
  File "/usr/bin/unsymlink-lib", line 717, in main
    m.analyze(usr_merge, prefixes)
  File "/usr/bin/unsymlink-lib", line 167, in analyze
    from portage import create_trees, _encodings
ImportError: No module named portage
 * The program failed.
Right after postinstall.
