Loss of Dual-Boot [Solved]

Post by VolvoBirkenstock » Mon Mar 23, 2020 3:26

Hello, Sabayon Gurus.

I have a desktop and laptop that were originally set up as dual-boot systems between Windows and Sabayon. I have not used the Windows side in some time (multiple months). However, I just tried to boot into Windows on both my laptop and desktop and found that grub did not provide Microsoft as an alternative. Since this functionality used to exist on both my desktop and laptop, I am wondering if a past upgrade might have removed the option for booting into Microsoft.

If I execute "su" to root and then execute "fdisk -l", I can still see the Microsoft partitions (HPFS/NTFS/exFAT) exist. Is there a set of instructions I can execute that will return this dual-boot functionality? I need this functionality very, very soon.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi. Try to mount Windows partition and update grub . Be sure that os-prober is installed on your system

Code: Select all

# equo i os-prober
Mount Windows partition (or all windows partitions)

Update grub

Code: Select all

# grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

Thank you for the fix, sabayonino.
It worked like a charm on both the laptop and desktop.
I am moving this issue to "Solved".

Is Windows installed on the same disk or on a different disk?

Windows is installed on two different partitions of the same hard drive (same disk).
