hello everybody,
i bought a new pc (assembled), in the past i usually intalled sabayon using dvd......
This new pc hasn't got dvd rom. To install sabayon what i have to do?
i suppose via usb stck...
Are correct those steps?

1) download iso image
2) download unebootini
3) launch unebootini and select second option (the one that let you chose an iso)

is that correct? have you any suggestion?

thanks

Hi, lucasaba.
You do not say if your new PC has an operating system, and if so, what operating system is loaded onto your PC.
You also do not say if you have another computer that you can use for this task.
I will assume that you have only the new PC and you have either Windows or Linux, other than Sabayon Linux, running on it.
If you want to run Sabayon Linux, then you will need to download both a Sabayon Linux ISO image and also download Unetbootin.
The order of these two downloads is unimportant.

Looking at the Unetbootin main page (https://unetbootin.github.io/), once you have both the Sabayon Linux ISO image and you are running Unetbootin, you should select "Diskimage" in the Unetbootin GUI. The process should be straightforward after that.

Good Luck!

Yes, select disk image and then select the sabayon iso image.

I also use KDE. I load the most recent monthly stable build. I use sabayon-weekly. Once that is installed, then I perform

Code: Select all

equo update
equo repo mirrorsort sabayon-weekly
equo upgrade
Since the Sabayon ISO is often rather old, the upgrade process can take significant time, so you might use

Code: Select all

equo upgrade --multifetch=10
instead of

Code: Select all

equo upgrade
if you have the bandwidth. The multifetch as shown here will download 10 packages at a time.

Good luck!

thanks for you help,
sorry for my english, but i didn't understand when you say "montly stable build"
If i look inside italian mirror, inside "stable" directory there isn't montly iso
I have to search inside the directory "iso"
if i look inside italian mirror, i found inside "/iso/monthly"

this iso.toorrent

Sabayon_Linux_19.03_amd64_KDE.iso.torrent

but the date is

27-Mar-2019 16:45

is this the iso you were talking about? is this "montly stable"?

Isn't it too old?

thanks for your help

Sabayon Monthly Mirror : https://sabayonlinux.mirror.garr.it/sab ... nthly.html (Lastest stable press release)
Sabayon Daily Mirror : https://sabayonlinux.mirror.garr.it/sab ... daily.html (Images will be update very often)

As Unetbootini you mean sys-boot/unetbootin

Italian Wiki has :
- https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?titl ... Unetbootin
- https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?titl ... mageWriter

Unetbootin is not raccomended for Sabayon 'cause some boot parts could be excluded

If you know what are you doing , you can use "dd" comand to write ISO to the USB device

Replace /dev/sdc according your destination device

Code: Select all

dd if=/path/to/image.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=8192k

Ciao !

Hi, lucasaba.

I am sorry it took so long to respond.

Yes, iso/monthly is where you find the "stable" ISO images. sabayonino knows what he is talking about. He has helped me many times. You should follow his advice.

The stable ISO image currently provided by Sabayon is Sabayon_Linux_19.03 which is dated 27 Mar 2019. That was a long time ago. You could use that ISO image and then perform the upgrade process; The upgrade will take a long time. That ISO image is what I used to recently rebuild a system after a hard-drive failure. Or you could use the daily ISO image and accept the risk of some instability. If you install using the daily ISO image you will likely need to change the configuration in order to update using the sabayon-weekly repository. If you had another computer running Sabayon Linux you could also build your own Sabayon ISO image, but that also requires technical sophistication.

Good luck!

No need to format the USB device. Just write the image as is on it.

Alternatively, you can use Rufus to write iso to USB..
