mplayer missing from Sabayon?

Post by jyoung » Fri Aug 23, 2019 19:38

Hi,

I'm test-driving Sabayon on a live usb, and I'm unable to install mplayer. This topic seems to have come up in the past, as in this post

forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=34023&p=180744&hilit=mplayer#p180744

But, that was few years ago. I'm new to Sabayon, and I'm trying to decide if it's a good fit for my needs. Is mplayer really not present in the Sabayon repository? How does that Sabayon repository differ from gentoo's?

thanks

Thanks, mpv works!

More generally, are packages from the Gentoo portage typically available in Sabayon?

thanks

Mostly, yes, but not all. You can also check Entropy package availability and details online via https://packages.sabayon.org/

If a specific Gentoo package is not provided in the Entropy repository, you can file a request via https://bugs.sabayon.org/ and, providing it does not cause any dependency problems or clashes with other Entropy packages, it may be built and added.
