Installing packages offline

Post by pseudotheist » Thu Aug 22, 2019 2:13

I'm trying out a Sabayon install, but the wireless driver needs to be installed. Unfortunately, I don't appear to be able to do this with the pre-loaded packages:

Code: Select all

ezpad /home/ezpad/build/rtl8723bu-master # make
make ARCH=x86_64 CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/modules/4.20.0-sabayon/build M=/home/ezpad/build/rtl8723bu-master modules
make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-4.20.0-sabayon'
/bin/sh: ./scripts/ No such file or directory
Makefile:854: scripts/Makefile.ubsan: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'scripts/Makefile.ubsan'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-4.20.0-sabayon'
make: *** [Makefile:333: modules] Error 2
I seem to need the linux-headers package installed. So, I figured I'd just download the package and install from a file. But I can't seem to figure out where to download a copy of the package without using the package manager. And then I'd have to figure out the best way to install from file in this distro.

Is this not too headache-inducing, or should I just move on to a distro that has compilation capabilities built in from the initial install?

You need @build-essentials set for full compiler support

Code: Select all

# equo i @build-essentials --ask
Basically @build-essentials

Code: Select all

╠ ## [R] [sabayon-weekly] sys-devel/automake-1.15.1-r2|0 [1.15.1-r2|0]
╠ ## [R] [sabayon-weekly] virtual/pkgconfig-1|0 [1|0]
╠ ## [R] [sabayon-weekly] sys-devel/autoconf-2.69-r4|1 [2.69-r4|1]
╠ ## [R] [sabayon-weekly] sys-devel/gcc-8.2.0-r6|0 [8.2.0-r6|0]
╠ ## [R] [sabayon-weekly] virtual/os-headers-0|4 [0|4]
and if you need of kernel-sources you nedd sabayon sources package also (4.20 release)

Code: Select all

# equo i sabayon-sources:4.20
