LiveUSB starting the preinstalled OS [Solved]

Post by dbdtchkrbrty » Sat Jun 22, 2019 9:33

The live USB is getting detected by my BIOS as bootable, but when I select it to boot from it, it just takes me to my default installed os. No Sabayon Live environment, no grub menu no nothing. Tried dd, SUSE studio imagewriter, Etcher, different pendrives none seems to work. Tried in a laptop, with i5 8250U processor. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello dbdtchkrbrty,

try to disable all boot entires in the boot ordner in BIOS or UEFI and only left your usb device. Then save and restart.

The same thing happened again. It booted right into the default installation.

Supports your laptop UEFI?

It definitely does.

Code: Select all

$ cd /sys
$ sudo find -iname efivars
./firmware/efi/efivars

Great!

then now do the following:

Format your usb device to one partition with fat32 (and GPT!) and copy all files from the iso to that.

This should look like this:

Now go to /boot/grub/ and open grub.cfg with any editor but with sudo, then replace all UUID=5c403dad00049b51 to UUID=YOUR-UUID for example in my case: UUID=56EF-38B0

You can get your UUID also with gparted, if you do a right click on the partition and click information.
