I need specific steps for this - I've always wanted to be able to do this
but I just don't know how.

Split off from OP's thread asking how to install Sabayon Linux KDE 18.05, as this question is different.

You originally asked this in a different forum thread. Fitz moved it.

But, to attempt to answer your question, let's start with "what is a .tar.xz file?"

And the answer, is it's simply a compressed file format. So, what you need to do is uncompress it (also referred to as extracting)

Let's say your file is named archive.tar.xz

Code: Select all

tar xf archive.tar.xz
According to a quick google search, that should get you to the original state.

But once you have that file, what to do with it depends on what file it is. It might not be an application to run, it could be a document to open. So you can see why it's very difficult to properly assist you.

Got another question about something else.
Why can't I update version Sabayon Amd64 19.01?
I always get the response that the repository is already up to date.
Aren't there any updates for this version?

Did you try to run equo update or equo upgrade?

Do you understand the difference between these commands?
equo update only updates the database (it contains info on what is installed and what is update-able). equo upgrade actually upgrades the system.

So the procedure to upgrade the system would be:

Code: Select all

equo update
equo upgrade
Have a look here:

But feel free to ask as well.
