Let's try a different tack. Finrod, for the time being remove the line 'blacklist ideapad_laptop' from the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. Reboot and then post here the output of the following command:

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep -i "ath\|firmware"
done it, here's the output:

Code: Select all

Well, you can see from the error messages in the output you posted that the problem is that the firmware is not being loaded, probably because it is not compatible with the driver (the ath10k modules). Your options are running out. Another thing I have seen suggested when I searched the Web for your model of Wi-Fi card is to do the following (as root user):

Code: Select all

mv /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA9377/hw1.0/firmware-6.bin /home/finrod/
As you can see, that command moves the file firmware-6.bin out of the firmware directory and leaves the file firmware-5.bin in the directory. Perhaps that version of the firmware will work in your installation.

Try that and reboot to see what happens.

hi Fitzcarraldo, thanks (again) for your reply.
I'll try that command in a minute and then I'll report.

If the options are running out this way, I mean trying to fix wifi with kernel 4.19, couldn't we try fixing the slowness with kernel 4.19 (where wifi works...), maybe in a new thread? ;-)

I have the same wifi adapter as finrod and the only way I could get it to work was update sabayon from new install after finishing update dont reboot open rigo find kernel 4.19 install it and then reboot and it will have wifi
Host: sabayon.local Kernel: 4.19.0-sabayon x86_64 bits: 64

the problem is: I did install 4.19, and yes, wifi works then, it's the Lenovo laptop that then comes so slow it's unusable :-(

I also tried 4.18 with the same issue: wifi ok but machine unusable.

tried, I get this reply: "mv: cannot create regular file '/home/finrod/': Not a directory"
