How to open ports? - [Solved]

Post by gocool » Wed May 23, 2018 23:42

   Normally I give :
# ufw allow 1714:1784/udp
   but now I get the below error
python-exec: Invalid impl in /etc/python-exec/python-exec.conf: python3.3
ERROR: initcaps
[Errno 2] modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'ip_tables': Exec format error
iptables v1.6.1: can't initialize iptables table `filter': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.
My Sabayon is current. I use KDE Plasma.

# eselect bzimage list
Available kernel targets:
[1] kernel-genkernel-x86_64-4.13.0-sabayon *
[2] kernel-genkernel-x86_64-4.14.0-sabayon
[3] kernel-genkernel-x86_64-4.4.0-sabayon
[4] kernel-genkernel-x86_64-4.9.0-sabayon
Is it because I am in 4.13.0? Should I switch to 4.14.0?

I switched to 4.14. Still no idea on what firewall we are using?
tried firewalld and ufw... nothing works... wondering if anyone could help.
For my kdeconnect I need to open these ports - 1714:1784

Hi, gocool,

any hints in the log files?
Just learnt about gufw when toying around with a Raspberry Pi 3B...

Kind regards

Research on the web like http://www.chanhvuong.com/2256/upgrade- ... naged-vps/ indicates a mix of x86_64 kernel with 32bit software...

What does the following gives you?
uname -a

file /sbin/init

(No Sabayon at hand. Could be that we don't have /sbin/init)

Thanks Ryuno-Ki. I was always 64 bit. But not sure if anything changed from the Sabayon team while rolling out. Here's my uname -a
#uname -a
Linux sound-room 4.14.0-sabayon #1 SMP Tue May 8 06:20:27 UTC 2018 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
My /sbin/init does not come up with anything.
# /sbin/init
Failed to subscribe to activation signal: Connection reset by peer
Failed to register name: Transport endpoint is not connected
Failed to set up API bus: Transport endpoint is not connected
Startup finished in 74ms.

The second command was "file /sbin/init".

I just try to find more information so that somebody with more knowledge may be able to help.

Will that help me open the ports?
I just can't understand this community... bent on confusing us...things which used to work once will stop working all of a sudden...and no where to go and look for answers. And I get the usual to go and search in Google...for crying out loud, you must be kidding, for Sabayon if anyone even cares to look through a newbies eyes, there are posts which are damn old and irrelevant still out there.

And when my simple question is how to open ports now?...I get this answer...and I have no clue what to do with this answer.

WOW!!! KUDOS SABAYON TEAM.
